Kalpeni Island

  Kalpeni, 287 kms away from Cochin , is famous for its scenic beauty. A huge lagoon encloses its small islets, namely, Tilakkam, Pitti and Cheriyam. Its biggest attraction is the huge bank of coral debris along the sides of eastern and southwestern shorelines. It is a progressive islands as far as the issues of tourists facilities to women education are concerned. Here you can swim or take up a reef walk or snorkel. How to reach in kalpeni island :

      

        Four passenger ships - MV Tipusultan, MV Bharat Seema, MV Amindivi and MV Minicoy operate between Cochin and Lakshadweep. The passage takes 14 to 18 hours depending on island chosen for journey. The ships offer different classes of accommodation: A/C Deluxe Class with two berth cabins, A/C First Class with four berth cabins and Tourist Class with A/C seating. MV Tipu Sultan has a cafeteria, snack bar, entertainment lounge and upper deck promenade for the tourists. A doctor is available on call on board MV Tipusultan & MV Bharath Seema.MV Amindivi and MV Minicoy also offer comfortable A/C seating ideal for a night’s journey.A large passenger ship is now started from kochin called MV Kavaratti.This ship also offer different class of accomodation for the passengers.

After reached in to the island :

   The passengers will reach the island by morning 6:00 o clock & After stepping on to Kalpeni you were greeted by strange transport vehicle to take you to the SPORTS resort on the south western side of the Kalpeni. There were small Piaggio Ape 3 wheeler pickup vans. Put two wooden benches on these pickup and this becomes luxury transport vehicle for you. The roads were narrow but fully concreted and runs along the length of this narrow island snaking the way through the coconut trees.
   

   At the resort we were welcomed to the island by SPORTS guys with fresh and rejuvenating coconut water.

   If you know to swim, then you are at ease. If you don’t know how to swim, then make sure you walk on the white sand and only put your head in water when needed. Make sure you are around the instructor at all times, so that he can spot you in times of distress. There will be  plenty of refreshing lemon juice which rejuvenated you to explore more.

   Then you can start to enjoying the beauty of the kalpeni island 7 you are permitted to take photose,to bath or you can swim in the cristal clear sea water, whether you are intrested in scuba diving then that also allowed then someny things....

   By 04-05 o clock  or After the tea it will be time to reach back to you ship. When you were reached in the jetty for the boat you could see a huge rush of passengers who want to travel in your ship to other islands along with you.Your ship will be ready to pick you and you have to fall in correct time given by the authority or the responsible person.You have to reach in to the jetty on time. you will reached on jetty by respected bus given to you & you will be shifted to the ship through the boat.The whole night you can take rest in the ship.Next day you will reach in next beautiful island.








About Kalpeni Island :


   Kalpeni is more known for its three satellite uninhabited isles named Tilakkam, Pitti, and Cheriyam. Kalpeni is 2.8 Km in length and 1.2 Km in width with Cheriyam island on the north, Tilakkam and Pitti on the south western side. Kalpeni has one of the largest lagoons in Lakshadweep archipelago. It is also quite shallow which makes it splendid for all kinds of water sports. Kalpeni has the distinction that it was the first of Lakshadweep islands where girls started going to school.
